Who We Are

2070 (Glenfield) Squadron is one of many the Air Training Corps units in the Leicestershire area. The Squadron began its life during WWII and was registered on November 11th 1942 as No 2070 (West Leicester) Squadron. Towards the end of the war the Squadron was disbanded and eventually formed as a detached flight of 1947 Birstall Squadron.

In the early 70′s there was a need for another ATC unit in west Leicester, and on March 24th 1974 a Squadron was formed in Glenfield. This new Squadron was assigned as No 2070, named after the original that existed in the area many years before. In the early 90′s the Squadron moved to Glenfield County Primary School where it has remained ever since.

Nowadays the Squadron usually parades 30 Cadets an evening, with batches of new recruits joining every few months. With a variety of experienced Adult Staff the Squadron enjoys a wide range of success, from shooting to academics. With a large number of Senior Cadets achieving their BTEC qualifications in Aviation Studies.
